  • Overview

A blue 2022 Chevy Equinox is angled left.

Good things are on the horizon for Chevy after the American automaker unveiled the newly redesigned 2022 Chevy Equinox that boasts a more modern exterior and numerous upgrades. For starters, you won’t find the bare-bones base L model in the Equinox’s 2022 lineup, which means the starting MSRP is higher. Despite this, however, you’ll find the 2022 Equinox adds greater value because its trims––the LS, LT, and Premier––are priced lower than their 2021 counterparts. So, what’s the catch?

Lucky for us, there’s no catch at all! The 2022 Equinox’s affordable price tag is part of Chevy’s way to attract drivers to the redesigned SUV that boasts a new front and rear fascia as well as a more modern grille, LED headlights, and LED daytime driving lights. Chevy also added the stunning RS trim to the lineup, which adds 19-inch Dark Android wheels, black exterior trim, an RS-exclusive shift knob, and a black interior with red stitching to give the Equinox an even sportier feel.

The 2022 Equinox also sees the addition of several new exterior colors, including Iron Gray Metallic, Cherry Rind Tintcoat, Blue Glow Metallic, and Seaglass Blue Metallic. You’ll find an all-new premium interior as well as a suite of innovative technology that extends from wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to driver-assist tools like Automatic Parking Assist and Front and Rear Park Assist. These updates and features usher the Equinox into a new era in the automotive industry––one that’s marked by affordability, value, sophistication, and performance.

The Equinox Is Ready for Anything

The 2022 Chevy Equinox is a great option because it combines the efficiency and performance of a sedan with the spaciousness of an SUV. This is courtesy of the Equinox’s 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and 6-speed automatic transmission that delivers 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. Whether you’re navigating rush-hour traffic in the city or cruising down the highway, you’ll have plenty of power to quickly accelerate and respond as the situation warrants.

    Fuel Efficiency

The Equinox’s responsive handling and capability don’t come at the cost of its efficiency whether you opt for front-wheel or all-wheel-drive. The Equinox with FWD averages 26 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway, while the AWD model averages slightly less at 25 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway. This slight difference makes the switchable AWD option even more attractive if you’re looking for greater stability and traction from the Equinox.

    Capacities

The Equinox’s efficiency and power make it a great SUV whether you’re commuting to work or traveling with the family on vacation. Capable of towing up to 1,500 pounds, the Equinox not only delivers the power and capability you need but also gives you ample room for both passengers and cargo. The cabin is spacious across its two rows, with second-row passengers enjoying 38.5 inches of headroom and 39.9 inches of legroom. With the second row in use, you have 29.9 cubic feet of cargo volume that can comfortably fit luggage, groceries, and other gear. Once you fold the rear seat, you’ll gain even more room with 63.9 cubic feet of space to haul everything from tools and camping gear to oversized bags and more.

  • Technology

The interior of a 2022 Chevy Equinox shows the steering wheel and infotainment screen.

Chevy knows that your busy schedule doesn’t stop when you’re in the driver’s seat. That’s why you’ll find loads of connectivity features and new technology to keep you connected and entertained whether you’re driving or riding as a passenger. At the heart of this connectivity is the Chevrolet Infotainment System that’s housed on a 7-inch touchscreen display on the LS, LT, and RS or an 8-inch display on the Premier. You can also opt for the 8-inch display with navigation on the LT, RS, and Premier trims, which is a great option if you travel frequently.

    Plenty of Entertainment Features

From the Chevy Infotainment System, you’ll have access to a world of entertainment, communication, and navigation tools. You can seamlessly sync your smartphone using wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto integration, listen to SiriusXM with 360L, or access a variety of in-vehicle apps. These apps include USA Today, Fox Sports, Pandora, Spotify, and The Weather Channel.

The infotainment system also gives you access to the Marketplace and the myChevrolet app. You can download the myChevrolet app on your smartphone to gain remote access over the vehicle, which means you can start or stop the engine, honk the horn, or lock and unlock the doors at the touch of a button. The Marketplace is the industry’s first-ever in-vehicle app that allows you to order food from or reserve a table at your favorite restaurant, pay for fuel at participating stations, find parking, or book a hotel. Marketplace partners include McDonald’s, Dominos, Exxon Mobil, iHop, Office Depot, Office Max, Wing Stop, Yelp, and Shell.

You’ll also want to take advantage of Alexa Built-In. This fully integrated tool allows you to keep your eyes ahead, your hands on the wheel, and your focus on the road. With simple voice commands, you can ask Alexa to stream your favorite music, tune into a podcast, add items to your Amazon shopping list, or connect with your smart home devices.

  • Safety and Driver-Assist

A blue 2022 Chevy Equinox is shown parked in front of a building.

Accidents happen, but Chevy gives you all the tools you need to prevent or minimize the potential for collision when you’re behind the wheel of the 2022 Equinox. Every trim is equipped with a rear vision camera, which is upgraded to a high-definition camera on the Premier trim. You can also add HD Surround Vision to the LT, RS, and Premier to give you a clear view of the entire SUV.

    Safety Features

The Equinox also comes standard with the Chevy Safety Assist suite and many other available driver-assist tools. The suite’s primary tool is Automatic Emergency Braking, which works with Forward Collision Alert and Front Pedestrian Braking to minimize the potential for collision by enhancing your braking or providing hard emergency braking to bring the Equinox to a stop when a collision is imminent. The suite also includes a Following Distance Indicator that minimizes the potential for tailgating, while the IntelliBeam automatic headlights enhance your visibility by automatically adjusting their brightness depending on the surrounding traffic. You can easily stay in your lane with Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, which alerts you when the Equinox is veering out of its lane.

If you’re looking for more advanced safety and driver-assist tools, Chevy has a variety of tools to offer like Adaptive Cruise Control. Unlike traditional cruise control that relies on your input to accelerate or slow down, Adaptive Cruise Control monitors the flow of traffic and adjusts your speed to maintain a safe distance from the vehicles ahead. You can add Front and Rear Park Assist to the Equinox to take the guesswork out of parallel or perpendicular parking. The available Rear Cross Traffic Alert is great for backing out of a busy area since it notifies you of traffic crossing the rear path of the Equinox. Other available tools include Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and a Safety Alert Seat.

For parents with teen drivers, you’ll certainly want to look into the Equinox’s Teen Driver Technology. Standard on every trim, the Teen Driver feature allows you to set parameters for your teen driver that are associated with a key fob. When that key fob is used, the parameters are active, and the Equinox knows to monitor the driver’s time behind the wheel. For example, the Equinox will delay the driver’s ability to shift the SUV into drive until the driver’s seatbelt is buckled. Once your driver returns home, you can access an in-vehicle driving report to see how your teen driver performed.
