The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 has a starting MSRP of $35,600.[a] The base model nets you the Work Truck trim, complete with a capable powertrain, spacious bed, and both media and safety features that rival any other truck in its price range. Higher-end trims like the Custom bring several improvements to the mix: better seats, larger wheels, and much more. Spending more will net you the Custom Trail Boss, an off-roading oriented trim, as well as options like the LT, RST, or the LT Trail Boss, another off-roading variant. A high-output turbocharged 2.7L I-4 engine comes standard with the Silverado 1500 and with trims like the Work Truck and Custom. The turbocharged 2.7L I-4 engine pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission; each of the other three engines links to a 10-speed automatic transmission instead. The 2023 Silverado 1500's payload capacity remains at 2,260 lbs no matter which engine you buy, but the maximum towing capacity can vary greatly. For example, the base engine tows 9,500 lbs, while the maximum towing capacity for the Silverado 1500 is 13,300 lbs using two of four powertrains.

However, the torque output isn't the only advantage the turbocharged 2.7L I-4 engine has; the base powertrain earns EPA-estimated ratings of 19 MPG in the city and 22 on the highway with RWD compared against the 5.3L V8 engine's ratings of 17 MPG in the city and 21 MPG on the highway. Utilizing the four-wheel drivetrain lowers these ratings, albeit not by much.
The two remaining powertrains ensure your 2023 Silverado 1500 performs to the utmost of its ability. The largest engine of the bunch is the 6.2L V8 engine, which provides 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque and a stark increase in towing capacity going from the previously mentioned 11,300 lbs up to 13,300 lbs. Although the 6.2L V8 engine is only available in 4WD, it earns almost identical EPA-estimated ratings to the 5.3L V8 engine in RWD: 16 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway.

The turbo-diesel engine doesn't only match the most capable powertrain in towing and provides the most torque output of the lot, but also the most fuel-efficient with its outstanding EPA-estimated ratings of 24 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway with RWD and 22 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway with 4WD.
The 2023 Chevy Silverado has an open-feeling interior that provides a comfortable fit for any passenger. Something that's not guaranteed on pickup trucks or otherwise is giving passengers in the back similar head and legroom as the driver. The hip and shoulder rooms are also close between the two. The 2023 Silverado 1500 gives the driver and front seat passenger 43.03 inches of headroom and 44.53 inches of legroom. Passengers in the back row lose a few inches of headroom at 40.12 inches, but legroom is barely affected, with 43.4 inches for passengers in the back.
Comfort isn't all about head and legroom, but shoulder and hip room matter, too, because the width of a cabin is equally as important as its height or length.
