  • Overview

A white 2023 Chevy Equinox RS is shown angled left.

There is no denying our passion for the SUV. So many sizes, styles, and options make the SUV an exceptionally versatile vehicle. One of the most flexible versions is the compact SUV, like the 2023 Chevy Equinox. Offering maneuverability along with ample passenger and cargo space, the compact is the perfect compromise, giving you the power and capability you need in a more manageable-sized SUV.

When the Equinox entered the market as a crossover, it was slated to capitalize on the growing enthusiasm for SUVs and CUVs. It succeeded and has flourished within the market, becoming a top seller. Its reasonable pricing combined with a slew of loaded trims is appealing and appreciated in a market that is highly saturated with overpriced competitors.

Four trims are available for the 2023 model. The LS base trim is anything but sparse, setting the tone for the rest of the line-up. As you move up the rungs, even the top trim is affordable despite being equipped with the best of the best. Choose between front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive for any of the trims. Thanks to the front-wheel drive, the Equinox sees an estimated 26 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. This drops slightly with the all-wheel drive but not significantly.

The Equinox has a 1.5L turbo humming under the hood, producing 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque, which is well utilized with the addition of StabiliTrak traction control, keeping your SUV on the road and ready to roll. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard across the board, providing smooth performance no matter where your travels take you. Equipped with safety, infotainment, and driver assistance features, the Equinox can hold its own against other SUVs. Let's take a closer look at what makes this compact crossover so special.

  • Design

A red 2023 Chevy Equinox RS is shown driving on a city highway.

When it comes to design, there is an Equinox for every type of driver. Rounded edges soften the look, keeping it from feeling too aggressive despite its size. On the RS, a dark mesh grille flows into slanted headlamps, and a lower fascia with an alternate grille design creates more dimension to the front end. The LS and LT trims both have darkened grilles, while the Premier is fashioned in chrome, and its side rails draw your eye back to the lower rear fascia in black.

For the LS trim, a subtle but elegant, durable Medium Ash Gray interior with chrome accents results in a comfortable cabin with a sharp look throughout. The LT has the same option, or you can choose Jet Black cloth seats with corresponding black stitching that creates a fluid appearance. The addition of the chrome details complements the blackened interior.

    The Midnight and Redline Editions

If sleek is your style, the special Midnight Edition is for you, providing the same great look but with a few enhancements. The grille is replaced with a stunning mold-in-color black grille, which matches the 18-inch gloss black aluminum tires, as well as other dark accents like black bowtie emblems and body-color mirror caps. For a pop of red exterior enhancements, the Redline Edition is another great option. The grille is swapped back to a mesh style, but this one is specific to the Redline. Black accents are added throughout; however, they are given a unique exterior look with red-outlined badging and red-accented tires.

    A Unique Interior Style

The RS trim has a special interior that will let you strut your sporty side. Black leather seats with red accent stitching on the seats, dash, and doors set this trim apart. Dark chrome details add even more dimension to the upscale interior. Optional Jet Black leather trim or Jet Black and Maple Sugar leather trim create a truly unique interior. The dual-tone interior features Jet Black and Maple Sugar leather on the seats and Maple stitching along the dash. The cabin is roomy and comfy, offering plenty of driver and passenger comforts. For such a reasonable price point, the Equinox feels rather upscale. The Equinox design, inside and out, presents an elevated look that will catch the eye and make you feel at home from the second you step behind the wheel.

  • Safety

A grey 2023 Chevy Equinox Premier is shown from the rear driving on a mountain highway.

One of the great things about SUVs is that they are safe. Thanks to their robust size and design, you will feel cradled within the cabin of the Equinox. But it is so much more than the size that makes this SUV a smart choice. Outfitted with plenty of advanced safety features, the Equinox has your back on the road.

    Chevy Safety Assist

Chevy Safety Assist is a suite of six advanced safety systems that make every drive a safer one. Forward Collision Alert uses sensors and an equipped camera to detect potential front-end impacts and will also alert you are following other vehicles too closely. Automatic Emergency Braking works along with Forward Collision Alert to initiate braking to lessen the impact if a collision is unavoidable.

The addition of Front Pedestrian Braking is a great feature for daytime driving. It can detect pedestrians when driving at city speeds and send an alert to notify you. In emergencies, it can brake for you or enhance your braking to minimize injury. When on the road, especially the highway, the Following Distance Indicator provides you with crucial up-to-date information on how closely you are following the vehicle ahead of you, giving you the gap time in seconds to help you decide if you're following too closely.

Safety features should never take the place of the driver’s attention, but sometimes driving tired or distracted can cause you to drift. Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning can detect if you begin to drift out of your designated lane. If so, it will provide a warning and then gently guide you back in your lane. If that doesn’t work, the system will give you additional warnings until you are alerted. The final trick in the bag of safety magic is the Intellibeam Auto High Beam Assist. This feature detects oncoming vehicles or changes in lighting and can turn the vehicle’s high beams on or off, depending on the situation. The safety features don’t end with those found in Chevy Safety Assist.

    Other Available Safety Features

Rear Camera Mirror changes your rear-view mirror into a camera view, allowing you better visuals of what’s behind you and allowing you to switch between camera or mirror as needed. Other features work along with the rear camera system to prevent potential collisions, such as Rear Park Assist, for when you are backing into a parking spot. This feature can detect objects behind your vehicle when reversing at low speeds. While in reverse, Rear Cross Traffic Alert also has your six by alerting you to passing vehicles when in reverse.

Additional standard and optional features include Teen Driver Technology, HD Surround Vision, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Rear Seat Reminder, just to name a few. You will feel at ease driving the Equinox with so many safety features within reach. Whether you are a new driver or a seasoned traveler, there is a variety of tech designed to ensure your safety on the road.

  • Technology

A close up of the infotainment screen on a 2023 Chevy Equinox is shown.

It wouldn’t be a 2023 model without an interior full of tech. One of the best features is the ability to turn your SUV into a mobile hotspot. With Wi-Fi capabilities, you can take all your gadgets with you without worrying about draining your data plan. Throw in a cup of coffee, and it’s like you have your own coffee shop on the go. To get the most out of your Wi-Fi, the Equinox is designed to be compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

    Connectivity

Apple CarPlay allows you to use your iPhone safely by syncing your phone to your SUV. Make calls, send texts, listen to music, and so much more without ever laying hands on your phone. The information is linked to the vehicle’s display, allowing you to pay attention to the road. Similarly, Android Auto connects to your smartphone, offering the same calls, texts, and music. You can even access Google Assistant and have it provide directions via voice command. If that wasn’t enough, the Equinox also has Alexa Built-In, so you can lock and unlock your doors and adjust the temperature by just using your voice.

    The myChevrolet Mobile App

Use the innovative myChevrolet Mobile App to increase convenience by turning your phone into an all-in-one stop for your vehicle needs. The app turns your phone into a key for your car, letting you control all its major functions. Lock your SUV from a distance, start or stop the engine, and more. You can also use the app to monitor your vehicle. Real-time diagnostics offers you an in-depth look at your vehicle and even allows you to schedule service if it detects any problems. You can check your oil level, fuel level, and tire pressure without popping the hood or using a tire gauge, all from your phone.

Vehicle Locate is another app feature helping you find your vehicle or even set boundaries which goes hand in hand with the Teen Driver Technology. It’s a great time saver as well, allowing you to send pre-determined directions to your vehicle via your phone, so there is no guessing on the go. With so many functions available on the app, you may start to wonder how you ever drove without it.
