The 2021 Sierra is poised quite nicely to stand out in this highly competitive field of full-size trucks.

The Sierra was completely redesigned in 2019; in 2021, it remains a familiar sight, visually pleasing to say the least, but it offers more features that make it convenient and comfortable. Some more significant features include a roomy cabin, a carbon-fiber bed, and an innovative tailgate that is sure to impress. One of the more appealing aspects of the Sierra is the choices you enjoy. • Standard Features

A gray 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 is shown from the front with a close up on the grille and headlight.

The GMC Sierra 1500 is a work truck at heart, but that doesn't mean it is void of the features and options that make driving fun, comfortable, and an overall enjoyable experience. The base model comes standard with rear corner steps to better access the bed, an illuminated cargo bed, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system complete with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. You have the choice of opting for a 5.3-liter V8 if you feel you need more power than the base V6 can offer, and you can also choose safety features like Automatic Emergency Braking and Forward Collision Alert. Of course, this is just what you get at the most basic level, which is fine as many drivers will utilize their Sierra as an everyday work truck.

Higher Trims With Plenty Of Features

The SLE trim is a substantial jump over the base model, and it can be enjoyed in the crew cab or double cab configurations. The base engine is now a 2.7-liter turbo-four, but you can opt for the 5.3-liter V8 or a 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel should you choose. On the inside, you will enjoy the dual-zone automatic climate control, 10-way power-adjust driver's seat, remote start, heated seats, and a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel. Lastly, you get to roll around on 17-inch aluminum wheels, and you can hit the trails with the automatic locking rear differentials.

The SLE also comes standard with GMC's MultiPro Tailgate, which offers unprecedented flexibility and can be positioned for use in several configurations. The MultiPro tailgate can be used as anything from a bed extender to an extra entry step. This is a unique feature of the Sierra that really makes it stand out from the pack.

As we said, the SLE is a big jump from the base model, and you get to enjoy numerous comfort and convenience upgrades. The Elevation trim comes with similar features to the SLE but does so in a sportier package. The bright chrome of the other trims is replaced with a body-color grille surround and bumpers, accented by black trim and side mirrors. Rounding out the package, 20-inch black wheels add to the rugged and aggressive look.

    SLT Means Comfort

The SLT trim is another big step up with plenty of features and options. For starters, the 5.3-liter V8 is the standard engine; you read that right, the V8 is standard on this trim level. Further, you can upgrade to an even larger 6.2-liter V8. If you are utilizing the Sierra SLT as a work truck, you will certainly enjoy the standard ProGrade Trailering system, HD rear vision camera, and 120-volt box-mounted power outlet. Interior goodies include a 10-way power front passenger seat, premium GMC infotainment system, and driver memory function. This powerful, luxurious, and handsome truck sits on 18-inch six-spoke machined aluminum wheels.

    Off-Road Performance

Should you have the desire to take your Sierra on an off-road adventure, you won't be disappointed. The AT4 trim is well-equipped with the components and features you need to complete your off-road exploits successfully. What's more, you can enjoy all-terrain escapades while looking good doing so.

The Sierra 1500 AT4 is a robust trim with plenty of off-road capabilities thanks in part to standard 4x4 and off-road suspension with a 2-inch factory lift. The off-road capabilities are further rounded out with hill descent control, underbody skid plates, and available Goodyear mud-terrain tires. A few interior features include ventilated front bucket seats with a center console, heated rear seats, and black leather seats.

    The Height of Luxury

The Denali trim level is quite impressive and really gives the Sierra that wow factor. You get all of the interior features of the lower trims in the Denali and more. Enjoy greater convenience than ever with standard GMC navigation, wireless device charging, a power sliding rear window with defogger, and an 8-inch digital driver information center to supplement the 8-inch infotainment screen.

There are also several safety features included in the Denali package. For example, drivers will enjoy Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Front and Rear Park Assist, and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert all standard. The additional available safety features include a head-up display, rear camera mirror, and HD surround vision, which employs front, side, and rear cameras to display the area around your Sierra - avoiding objects while parking has never been easier.

    Cargo and Towing

There are four available cab choices for the 2021 Sierra 1500: a two-door regular cab, a four-door double cab, and a full-size crew cab. Regardless of which cab configuration you choose, space will never be an issue as even the short box provides more cargo space than the regular box on some competing trucks. A properly equipped 2021 Sierra 1500 can also haul up to 2,250 pounds.

Towing capacities for the GMC Sierra 1500 vary greatly depending on several factors, including engine choice and towing features. A properly equipped Sierra with the base 4.3L V6 engine enjoys a towing capacity of 7,900 pounds. On the other end of the spectrum, a Sierra with the 6.2-liter V8 under the hood has a towing capacity of 11,800 pounds when properly equipped.

    A Comfortable Cabin

The regular cab Sierra can comfortably seat up to three people; the double cab and crew cab models can seat up to six people unless you opt for front bucket seats, in which case you can seat five. Whichever cab you choose, the driver sits nice and high and enjoys a clear and unobstructed view. The seats in the front and on the back are roomy and comfortable, and there is plenty of space for even large adults. The cabin of the Sierra is well-built, quiet, and you can see the quality of materials they use; sitting in the cabin feels luxurious.

From a style standpoint, the Sierra looks and feels quite modern. Sitting behind the wheel of the Sierra, the center-stack controls are within easy reach, the infotainment menu layout is intuitive, and it is easy to pair your smartphone with the system. The standard infotainment system is very user-friendly, the touchscreen responds quickly, and the audio is crisp and clear.
