The 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV is at the forefront of pushing all-electric vehicles to the next level. Powered by 288 lithium-ion battery cells on a battery pack tucked neatly underneath the vehicle, the Bolt EUV affords occupants maximum amounts of interior volume to move around in without worrying about the battery obstructing the passenger or cargo space. The battery pack provides up to 65 kilowatts of power an hour, and thanks to the new active thermal management system for induced cooling, the battery is guaranteed to perform for at least eight years or up to 100,000 miles with warranty coverage on all the battery-related components.
The pack itself powers a single electric motor that operates on a permanent magnetic drive, which utilizes variable frequencies to control the speed output generated by magnets embedded onto the rotor. The current from the battery is moved through the conductor to create a magnetic field based on the voltage, which in turn gives the electric motor the power to create propulsion through the single-speed transmission.
The Chevy Bolt EUV is a front-wheel drive electric vehicle with a 7.05:1 final drive ratio that produces up to 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. And thanks to the modest curb weight of 3,679 pounds, the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV is capable of achieving up to an estimated 250 miles of travel on a single, full charge. This easily makes the Chevy Bolt EUV one of the best performing all-electric vehicles within the sub-compact SUV category.
Many of the Bolt EUV's functions are built on top of the latest automotive technology, enabling it to achieve the remarkable feat of being able to travel up to 250 miles on a fully charged battery. Additionally, the battery energy is conserved based on regenerative properties applied via the braking system, also known as one-pedal driving. This is achieved with the Regen on Demand paddle on the steering wheel, where the kinetic energy built up from the vehicle slowing down is turned into reserved energy for the battery.
With two driving modes available that can alter the way regenerative braking is performed, drivers have options in how the energy is stored. In the Low Mode, holding down the Regen on Demand paddle on the steering wheel will deliver up to 70 kilowatts of regenerative power, while holding down the Regen on Demand paddle while in Drive Mode will deliver up to 65 kilowatts of regenerative power.
In Low Mode, regenerative braking can be used in conjunction with one-pedal driving, where the driver only has to hold down the accelerator to propel the vehicle forward and use the Regen on Demand paddle along with releasing the accelerator to bring the vehicle to a halt. This technology not only helps with reserving battery power during travels, but it also helps with preserving the quality of the brakes and reduces the amount of particulate matter from friction-based brake pads.
Beyond the regenerative braking capabilities, traditional charging has been improved for the 2022 Bolt EUV. The all-new Dual Level Charge Cord makes it easy to plug-in the Bolt EUV at home and get a full charge in up to 7 hours with the 240-volt charging station. Alternatively, you can gain up to 4 miles of travel with just an hour of charging using a 120-volt station. Best of all is the now standard incorporation of DC fast charging, which enables electric vehicles like the 2022 Bolt EUV to charge up quickly in near record time, such as enabling drivers to gain up to 95 miles worth of travel within just 30 minutes of charge time. And with the Level 2 charging speed, the Bolt EUV is capable of 11 kilowatts an hour charging with ease and efficiency.
Fast charging will also be easier than ever before, with General Motors working with EVgo to produce more than 2,700 fast-charging stations across the country by 2025. So you will be able to quickly put travel miles on the Bolt EUV in just a matter of minutes.
