The best way to describe the fantastic 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited is a Light-Duty pickup truck that punches well above its weight. Combining some of the most revered tech features with impressive performance, all in a durable frame is the Sierra 1500 Limited’s greatest strength. That’s not to say the base configuration isn’t impressive in its own right, but the 1500 Limited gives drivers unprecedented customization in tailoring their ideal experience. More so than other trucks, the Sierra 1500 Limited narrows its focus on quality-of-life improvements – offering drivers a vast sea of amenities designed to make work less of a chore. The interior, exterior, and everything under the hood combine to make a pickup truck you can acquire at a fantastic price.
The 2022 Sierra 1500 Limited is available in six trim levels, and within this list, you have a luxurious truck, an off-roading variant, and a generously feature-packed base model, among others. The Sierra Limited PRO is the base model, and this trim has a starting MSRP of $31,200.* The SLE, Elevation, and SLT follow the PRO, and the AT4 is the aforementioned off-roading trim, complete with its mud-terrain tires, a carbon-fiber bed for extra durability, and a 2-inch suspension lift for mastering the trail. Lastly, the Denali adds features such as a MultiPro Tailgate, a giant 15-inch HUD behind your steering wheel, and more.

Four powertrain configurations are available for the 2022 Sierra 1500 Limited. The base engine is a turbocharged 2.7L I-4 with 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque. Along with this turbocharged engine is an 8-speed automatic transmission, and you can expect to tow up to 9,100 lbs with it. There’s no V6 for the Sierra 1500 Limited; instead, the next engine is a 5.3L V8 – producing 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Either an 8-speed or 10-speed automatic transmission can be paired with this engine, and the towing capacity is raised to 11,100 lbs, which is nearly 22% more than the turbocharged I-4.
The 5.3L V8 engine isn’t the strongest engine available for the Sierra 1500 Limited, however. Instead, the most powerful powertrain available for this pickup truck is the 6.2L V8 paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to this V8, the Sierra 1500 Limited can output 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, which is roughly 35% more horsepower and 32% more torque than the base engine. Additionally, the towing capacity is raised to 11,800 lbs – the most this truck can tow and is roughly 30% more than the base configuration.
Some of the most popular trucks nowadays offer a turbo-diesel option to drivers, and the 2022 Sierra 1500 Limited is no exception. Diesel engines are best known for exceptional fuel efficiency, but they also can match V8 engines in torque output. The turbo-diesel 3.0L I-6 available for the Sierra 1500 Limited is linked with a 10-speed automatic transmission and produces 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The towing capacity for the turbo-diesel engine sits at 9,200 lbs, which may sit under the V8’s towing potential, but it’s still better than the turbocharged I-4.
A large part of what makes a truck worth driving is a cabin which makes you feel in control. An interior that feels like a tank is something you simply can’t achieve on anything smaller than a pickup truck. The Sierra 1500 Limited can achieve this in a few ways, most notably is the size of the cabin. Three cab sizes are available with the Sierra 1500 Limited, and the differences mostly stem down to second-row legroom.
Front-row headroom and legroom are mostly the same between the three, with 43-inches and 44.5-inches, respectively. The same goes for the second-row headroom – there are 40.1-inches inside the Crew and Regular Cabs and 39.8-inches for the Double Cab. As mentioned prior, the second-row legroom sees the greatest change. The Crew and Regular Cab both have 43.4-inches of legroom, and the Double Cab has 35.2-inches. This makes sense, however, since the Regular Cab seats three passengers as opposed to six. Have cargo you don’t want to put in the bed? The Sierra 1500 Limited offers a variety of separate storage compartments – some of which are hidden. For example, a Console-Mounted Safe can be installed to hide what’s most important to you, such as your wallet, ID’s, etc. This comes as part of the Cargo Convenience Package, along with a separate cargo bay under the back-row seats.
Manufacturers have been making spacious interiors for years, but where many tend to falter is in occupant comfort. Not with the Sierra 1500 Limited, however, thanks to GMC’s long history of comfortable driving experiences. A 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat is available with built-in power-lumbar support, but with the Sierra 1500 Limited, the passenger doesn’t have to settle for a less comfortable seat – they can get a 10-way power-adjustable seat too. Cloth comes standard, but this can be swapped out for perforated leather on select trims.
The 2022 Sierra 1500 Limited also shows its strengths in the tech department. An 8-inch infotainment system with built-in navigation will include features such as Bluetooth, Wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Charging your phone can be achieved via a USB connection, or you can utilize an available Wireless Charging Pad if your smartphone supports it, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot is standard on select trims too. Additionally, a seven-speaker premium Bose sound system is available on select trims, which is a must for drivers who regularly listen to music. This infotainment screen does far more than media, however, and can be complemented by an Auxiliary Trailer and Bed Cameras, and Hitch Guidance – all of which make towing a breeze.
The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 takes on safety in a couple of ways. A host of advanced safety features are available, and the frame is built strong too. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) rated the 2022 model with a “Good” rating, which is its highest grade, to the moderate overlap front, sides, roof, head restraints, and seats, among others. You’ll also find six airbags are fitted throughout the cabin. How about the advanced safety features, though?
Several advanced safety features are available to you, depending on the trim level you purchase. The first of which is a Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Emergency Braking. If you’re about to collide with another vehicle, you’ll get a warning, and thanks to a Safety Alert Seat, each side will vibrate according to your surroundings. Automatic Emergency Braking will bring the vehicle to a complete stop to prevent collision with another vehicle, but the Sierra 1500 Limited can also include Front Pedestrian Braking. Forward Collision Alert is complemented by the Following Distance Indicator, which ensures you’re staying a safe distance behind the driver in front of you.
Front and Rear Park Assist are also available for the Sierra 1500 Limited, and this will perfect your parking skills with alerts built in to warn you if you’re parking too close to an obstructing object. When you’re backing out of a parking space, Rear Cross Traffic Alert will give you additional visibility by warning you of oncoming traffic from either side. Whether this is your first truck or not, you can imagine parking such a large vehicle can be tricky at first. Thankfully, these features streamline the process by a wide margin.
A large vehicle will take time to get used to, no matter how you slice it. This can become evident during highway travel. Even in smaller vehicles, the blind-side is called what it is for a reason. With the Sierra 1500 Limited, you can utilize available Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. Starting with the latter two, Lane Departure Warning will give the driver a heads-up if they’re misaligned with their intended lane. Lane Keep Assist will then provide a slight adjustment to the steering to correct the truck’s placement, but slowly enough to not make the driver feel they’re losing control of the vehicle. Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert will give you an indication of vehicles surrounding your blind spot and will help you find the right time to switch lanes.
