  Trucks aren’t exactly known for having great fuel economy ratings, but that’s changing thanks to the Silverado Limited. One of the main things we love about the 2022 Silverado 1500 Limited is that it includes a diesel engine option. This engine allows for a max tow capacity of 9,500 pounds while maintaining 23 MPG in the city and up to 31 MPG on the highway. Thanks to this, drivers who don’t need the Silverado's max tow capacity (13,400 pounds) can maintain impressive fuel economy while still being able to tow boats and other items.

  The new Silverado 1500 also includes options for either a short, standard, or long bed, resulting in up to 89.1 cubic feet of cargo bed volume and as little as 62.9 cubic feet.   While the engine specs are important when shopping for any vehicle type, they are especially important when it comes to truck shopping. This is mostly due to the fact that your engine type affects your tow capacity. The good news is that every Silverado engine is tow-capable, with a maximum towing capacity of over 9,000 pounds. It’s just a matter of how much towing capacity you do (or don’t) need.

  2.7L I-4 and 9,300 lbs

  There are four different engine options on the new 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited model. The first is the standard base-level engine. This 2.7-liter turbocharged engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and produces 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to this setup, the 2.7-liter engine can handle up to 9,300 pounds of tow capacity, the new Silverado’s lowest max tow capacity of the four.

  5.3L V8 and 11,500 lbs

  Next up is the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine. This engine is paired with a standard 8-speed automatic transmission but offers an available 10-speed transmission for those who want “spin loss.” Put simply, a 10-speed transmission works better than a 6 and 8-speed transmission, making it a more reliable option. This engine shows a large increase in horsepower and torque, offering 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque when paired with the 2022 Silverado 1500 Limited. As a result, this truck can tow up to 11,500 pounds.

  6.2L V8 and 13,300 lbs

  Now let’s look at the larger 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine. The 6.2-liter engine houses a standard 10-speed transmission and offers 420 horsepower with a 460 pound-feet of torque. Due to its stats, this engine offers the highest max tow capacity for the Silverado Limited, landing at 13,300 pounds.

  3.0L I-6 and 9,500 lbs

  Last but certainly not least, let’s look at the 3.0-liter Duramax turbo diesel engine. While this engine offers a lower tow capacity than both V8 options, it remains a favorite due to its impressive fuel economy. You can still tow up to 9,500 pounds with this engine thanks to 277 horsepower and a 6.2-liter V8-matching 460 pound-feet of torque. However, you’ll also reach an average of 23 MPG in the city and 31 on the highway, an impressive feat for a truck in this class.

  Flexibility Creates More Functionality

  Vast cargo space is expected with any truck, but the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited is an exceptionally spacious model, offering a maximum of 89.1 cubic feet of bed volume. Not only that but the Silverado’s bed area is equipped with several convenience features. This model includes 12 standard cargo hook tie-downs, a first-ever power up/down tailgate, and GM’s exclusive Multi-Flex Tailgate. The Flex Tailgate includes six different features:

  • The Primary Gate: This is the regular gate that is opened using a key fob, an interior switch, or via a button on the tailgate.
  • The Primary Gate Load Stop: In addition to using tie-downs, drivers can use the Primary Gate Load Stop to secure longer items.
  • Easy Access: There’s an option to fold down the inner gate, making it easier to reach far back into the truck bed.
  • Full-Width Step: As expected, there’s a foldable step option included with the Multi-Flex Tailgate. The inner gate folds down, turning into a step that can hold as much as 375 pounds.
  • Inner Gate Load Stop: This feature is like the Primary Gate Load Stop, but for the Inner Gate instead.
  • Inner Gate Work Surface: Acts as a construction desk with a place for blueprints, a laptop, and more.

  In addition to the Multi-Flex Tailgate, the new Silverado comes with other handy convenience features like the Advanced Trailering System and up to 15 different camera views. These technologies make trailering easier by providing pre-departure checklists, monitoring, and diagnostics and by making it easy to see everything from almost every possible view imaginable.   One thing’s for certain; the new Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited offers plenty of room for customization. As if ten exterior color options aren’t enough, Chevy also provides four unique Special Edition packages that center heavily on customization. Let’s take a closer look at each of them.

  The Realtree Edition

  This one was made with hardcore hunters in mind. The Realtree Edition Silverado is available for the Custom Trailboss Trim. It includes a standard 2-inch factory lift, 18-inch Gloss Black wheels, and Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac MT Tires. These tires are designed specifically with heavy towing and hauling, snow, and mud in mind.

  It’s not all about the functional bonuses here, though. This special edition model includes several customization add-ons as well. These include the following:

  • Camo graphics added onto the outside box, the truck’s hood, and the tailgate/rear end.
  • A Chevytec special spray-on liner for the truck bed, which comes with a Realtree logo.
  • Black tubular assist steps (rounded side steps)
  • Dual outlets with black tips, along with black badging
  • Optional 20-inch high-gloss black wheels
  • Camo interior accents

  The Realtree edition also comes with a standard 6.2-liter V8 engine 𑁋 the most powerful engine available when it comes to towing (with a 13,300-pound max tow capacity).

  The Redline Edition

  Only available on the RST trim, this edition offers a sporty, red and black-themed design. This includes features like red recovery hooks, 20-inch black wheels, black door handles, side steps, and tips, and even red striping and outlining. This model even offers a blacked-out center grille bar with dark headlight bezels to match.

  The Midnight Edition

  Essentially, this model has all black everything. The Midnight Edition is available on the LT Trail Boss and Custom Trail Boss models. In addition to its blacked-out aesthetic appeal, this model has a 2-inch lift and options for either Silverado V8 engine.

  Rally Edition

  This one’s made to look like a racing truck. It includes black hood and tailgate racing stripes with all-black accents. The trick to this one is that it comes in two different sub editions, including the Custom Edition and the RST Edition. The Custom Edition is only available with the smaller 2.7-liter turbocharged engine, while the RST Edition offers three engines, the 2.7L Turbo, 5.3L EcoTec3 V8, or 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine.
